 Hi, Golden Eagles!

My name is Ms. Akers and I'll be your English teacher for the 2009-2010 school year. Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm a small town girl from Central Texas. I completed my Undergraduate Degree at Texas A&M, then decided to get my Master's Degree as well! I finished my Master's last August in Curriculum and Instruction. When trying to find a new school home, I came across a Cy-Falls administrator who showed me what the Eagle Spirit is all about. I immediately moved to Houston and settled into the new world of big-city life. Each year, I've learned so much about what teaching really means--the stuff they don't teach you in college! This year, I'm re-vamping our classroom curriculum and finding new (and hopefully more exciting) ways to do things. But more than anything, I'm excited about getting to know each one of you all through the year!

This is my third year at Cy-Falls and I couldn't be happier with how things are going. This is a very involved school with a strong, supportive administration. This creates a positive environment so we can focus on our class' curriculum and do what we're here to do--learn!

Wondering what to expect this year? You can expect to get the most out of every class period in my room. You can expect to walk out of English II fully prepared for your next year of English. We will go beyond the written word of our literature selections and discover what lessons each author is whispering to your generation. We will look at the context surrounding each piece of literature and how it impacted the author's work. This year, your interests will be the driving catalyst in learning!

Here's how to be successful in my class: try your hardest at everything you do. This isn't just a classroom expectation, it's a life lesson. If you really do try your hardest, you will never be disappointed in the results. It's only when we fail to give our all that we have regrets. I will do everything I can to help you succeed, but you are the defining factor in your success.

Let's have a great year, class of 2012!
