Welcome to Mrs. Anzaldua's English class!
I am looking forward to working with you in your upcoming English class at Cypress Falls HS. My goal is for every student to become a life-long learner who is enthusiastic about the vast amount of knowledge there is to obtain.

Through discussions on topics such as ambition, honor, conformity, individualism, and tolerance, I expect you to experience a personal growth as you examine your own ideas in this journey of self-discovery. Also through various multi-media projects and writing assignments, it is my desire for you to develop your own personal voice by effectively using your unique gifts and talents.

Throughout the year, we will study poetry, novels, drama, nonfiction and short story selections.

Specifically, in my English II H and K courses, we will cover several works such as: Fahrenheit 451, Julius Caesar, Antigone, A Raisin in the Sun, The Once and Future King, Night, and To Kill a Mockingbird. You will also have the opportunity to read a book of your choice at least once this year.

I highly recommend that you purchase your own copy of the major texts assigned and annotate the texts as you read. While you are reading, underline or make notations of important techniques, literary devices, repeated images, passages that seem important, symbolic, or even puzzling. After a quick review of the literal level of the meaning, we will spend our class time on style analysis, thematic connections, symbolism, and other class discussion topics.

Simply, I want your school year to be one not only filled with memorable experiences, but also a year filled with success.

I look forward to meeting and working with you next year.

Kind Regards,
Brandi Anzaldua
