Shawn McAnear is in his fourteenth year of teaching and his twelfth year as a band director at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas. He is a 1990 graduate of Klein Forest High School and a 1994 graduate of Southwest Texas State University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree.
Mr. McAnear is the Director of Bands and conducts the Symphonic Band and The Golden Eagle Marching Band at Cypress Falls High School. His bands have been a consistent UIL Sweepstakes award winner, Bands of America Regional Finalist, UIL State Marching Band Contest Participant and named Best in Class at festivals in San Antonio, Dallas and Corpus Christi. The Cypress Falls band also performed at the 2008 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival and advanced to the Area Level of the TMEA Honor Band.
Mr. McAnear has previously taught percussion throughout Texas, including Brenham, Del Valle, Austin, Lampasas, and the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School Districts. Under his direction, the Cypress Falls Percussion Ensemble was invited and performed at PASIC 2004 – Nashville and the Bands of America National Percussion Festival in 2004. The Ensemble has been named the 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2003 Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) Concert World Class Champions and the 2002 and 2003 Winter Guard International (WGI) Lone Star Regional Concert World Class Champions. The indoor marching percussion ensemble is the 2000 WGI ‘A’ Class bronze medalist, a WGI regional champion, and a TCGC marching champion in 1999 and 2002.
Mr. McAnear is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and is an educational endorser for Pro-Mark Corporation. He is also an active adjudicator and arranges percussion compositions for various schools throughout the country. His wife, Melissa, is the Director of Financial Services for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. They have two boys, Mason who is 9 and Braden who is 6.
