About me >
I have been a geographer since 1986. I enjoy putting geography to work by traveling, taking pictures of the cultural landscape and being active geographic activities. I encourage all students and parents to get out there and become more geographically aware.
Tips for Success in High School >>
1. Time management is essential!
2. Just because you are smart, everything is not always going to come easily.
3. Learning is more important than grades.
4. You must learn to balance what you want to do with what you need to do .
5. Keep working, don't give up the first time you get frustrated .
6. Come to terms with actually having to study for longer amounts of time than in middle school .
7. Accept that you really can’t study effectively while on Facebook, a cell phone, i-pod, computer and/or playing video games.

More about my teaching experiences > I started teaching way back in 1986 in Justin, Texas. After receiving my initial geographic training at Texas A&M, I moved to Houston and started working at Cy-Fair High School in 1990. I helped launch the geography program at Cypress Falls in 1994 as the Team Leader. Currently I teach On Level and Horizons/GT World Geography and the Advanced Placement Human Geography class. This summer I started working with NASA again on a collaboration regarding AP Human Geography activities.
I enjoy being active at the local, state and national levels in teacher training programs for the National Geographic Society and NASA. I became the Lead Mentor for CyFalls in 2008.
Some of my activities include:
> Texas Alliance for Geographic Education (TAGE) State Steering Committee Member
> Founding board member of the Friends of Geography (FOG) in Houston in 1990
> FOG conference chair in 1999
> FOG President in 2001
Recognitions I have received include:
1995/96 CyFair Council for the Social Studies Joe Janca Service Award
1999 FOG Distinguished Service Teaching award
2002 NCGE National Distinguished Geography Teacher
2003 CyFair ISD Wall of Fame (1)
2008 TAGE Distinguished Service Teaching Award
2009 CyFair ISD Wall of Fame(2)
