Trained in the Classic tradition in Florence, Italy at the Angel Academy of Art as well as throughout public school and universities in the US, my work has had many influences. It will, no doubt, have many more as I move through this marvelous existence called life.
I grew up a Marine brat and lived mainly in Virginia, California, and Texas. All are very different cultures while fitting beautifully into the delightful unity that is America. I had several different majors while at the University of Texas, including engineering, advertising, and music. I can't seem to get enough education, so I returned to Sam Houston State University and earned a teaching certificate in art and theater. I used this far more than my degree in music by teaching in the public schools of Cypress, near Houston, for fourteen years.
I decided to return to school yet again after attending a workshop at Angel Academy in Florence, and have completed half of the course there. I am teaching in Cypress once again after spending a year digging up bombs and building targets for jets out in Nevada and going through the process of being a live liver donor. God has been doing weird and wild stuff in my life for the last several years, and I’m hoping a return to Florence to finish my schooling will be coming up after this new teaching adventure!
I have found no discipline or medium of art that I do not enjoy! Drawing has, however, been my mainstay no matter what else I am experimenting with. It is an important building block for all other disciplines and a very effective planning tool. Studying works of master artists is also an essential, just as writer’s read the works of great authors to learn their craft. Both are incorporated in my classroom at every level.
