This is my third year to be teaching in Cypress Fairbanks ISD. I graduated from University of Houston. Go Cougars! For me, teaching has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have always known that this was a calling for me and that education was extremely vital in many capacities. I come from a family of educators and am married to one as well. My husband, an elementary school teacher, shares this passion for teaching as well.
I not only love to teach, but I love to learn and experience new things each and every day. This love of learning has spurred a love of reading in many genres, creative writing and travel. My husband and I would love to write a series of childrens' books one day and I have always hoped to be an accomplished poet and author of fiction as well. I believe that having dreams is important and setting goals to reach those dreams is a great lesson for everyone.
I have a lot of material to write about, much of it from my travels as a child. I come from a military family, so I was fortunate enough to travel around the world. Now, with my husband and son, we try to continue to travel to many places. I believe that seeing these various places gives me a better perspective in life, as well as having a lot of fun.
I have taught English III in the past. Currently, I am teaching Read 180 and am the General Education Dyslexia contact teacher at Cypress Ridge. I have Read 180 classes for ESL (English as a second language) and a Dyslexia class as well. I am very passionate about the Scholastic Read 180 program and have found that it is extremely successful in several ways. Students are improving their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills at a great pace. This includes great strides toward improving decoding skills with phonemic awareness and comprehension skills. I am also finding that this program has helped them to discover a passion of their own for reading and writing. This new found passion has helped to solidify why I am teaching and why I still love to read and write.
